To all of our fellow gem enthusiasts, welcome and happy new year! In the spirit of new year’s resolutions and fresh starts, we are greeting 2015 with the launch of our much discussed passion project, Gem Whisperer.
When you’ve spent the better part of a lifetime collecting gems– jewelry, of course, but also the people and experiences that come with– it is difficult to know how and where to begin your chronicle. After reflecting on the past year, though, the source of inspiration for our inaugural series of posts became abundantly clear. Of all of the travel, shopping, and cultural exploration that we’ve done in 2014, both in the states and abroad, there is nowhere that captures our imagination more than the allure of the American Southwest.
Specifically, our hearts belong to the capital of the “land of enchantment”– Santa Fe, New Mexico. While the landscape alone is enough to entice us, with its vast deserts, rugged mountains and never ending blue skies, it’s the costume parties, frosty margaritas shared with our dearest friends, and galleries stuffed with the most tempting treasures that keep us returning year after year. And as if that weren’t enough, don’t forget enduring indigenous culture, adobe architecture that predates the nation and a mouthwatering local cuisine.
Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or you haven’t yet had the pleasure of visiting, we hope to introduce you to a few of our favorite New Mexican gems. Over the next two weeks, we will be posting a series of articles and photographs featuring jewelry designers, artists, restaurants, shops and the natural and cultural icons of the Southwest.
Stay tuned!
