Hello! Pleased to make your acquaintance. My name is Sami Rahman, and I am a junior at Temple University, studying journalism, who has developed an interest in fashion and jewelry that I would say has been slowly growing since I was young.
Since this is my first post, I thought I would start by sharing some information about myself, but there is also something more serious I would like to address. This blog is certainly not for political preaching, but I cannot go forward without addressing the horrifying attacks that occurred in Paris last month. My heart goes out completely to the victims, to those who lost someone, and to anyone affected by the devastation in any way, not only in Paris, but in Beirut and on the Russian plane, as well. I hold Paris in particular close to my heart, and I consider it my second city. A great deal of my family lives there, and luckily none were harmed during the attacks. So, with that said, I would like to consider this post as an introduction to myself, but also as an ode to the city that I love, Paris.
I have been visiting Paris throughout my life, for as long as I can remember. I fell in love with the people, the culture, the food, and, most notably, the clothing. Always so put together and elegant, Parisians’ style is a far cry from the preferred casual clothing and athletic wear seen on the streets of America. It’s not that I avidly followed fashion, but, as a Frenchman, I like to think it that it was in my blood.
My interest was piqued further when I met my stunningly beautiful girlfriend, Melanie. (First girlfriend, might I add.) We met at a high school dance, and it has been wonderful for three years now. Needless to say, Melanie, gorgeous as she is, has quite the taste in fashion and jewelry, to the chagrin of almost every other girl on the street. I loved it, of course, but soon found that she also thought I had great taste! Who knew? When I would accompany her while she shopped, I would pick out a few things here and there, and she always seemed to love whatever I was choosing, and I grew to enjoy the process.
During a visit to Paris after Melanie and I started dating, I took my first shot at finding jewelry that she would like. I found a gorgeous ring, with a lilac gem (her favorite color) on the Champs Elysees. Lucky for me, she loved it, and still wears the ring to this day! So I would say that her interest was the catalyst for me becoming more engrossed with fashion and jewelry.
